Be Your Story Keeper

Grace Surace far right...other's unknown...

-Pamela A. Harazim

"Come, look with me inside this drawer,
In this box I've often seen,
At the pictures, black and white,
Faces proud, still, and serene.

I wish I knew the people,
These strangers in the box,
Their names and all their memories,
Are lost among my socks.

I wonder what their lives were like,
How did they spend their days?
What about their special times?
I'll never know their ways.

If only someone had taken time,
To tell, who, what, where, and when,
These faces of my heritage,
Would come to life again.

Could this become the fate,
Of the pictures we take today?
The faces and the memories,
Someday to be passed away?

Take time to save your stories,
Seize the opportunity when it knocks,
Or someday you and yours,
Could be strangers in a box."

Our Team Leader, the awesome Brenda Rose, recently shared this poem with her Rose Blossoms.  The whole time she was reading this poem, I was picturing this picture in my head.  I'm not sure why this picture has stuck with me over the years.  I found it in a box in my husband's basement right after we were married, along with many other treasures of stories untold.  I love photographs...I love stories.  I do know that this is my husband's mother at the far right.  I wonder if these women were best of friends, what did they end up doing with their lives, and where are they now?  I love how they were all dressed so beautifully.  Where were they going? Each one had their own story...I can only imagine.  My mother-in-law left an amazing legacy and it carries through her daughter and son, granddaughters and great grandchildren.  So many precious memories have been shared with me over the years and I wonder, who is keeping the stories...

I've kept scrapbooks over the past and journals, but now I'm starting to go back and incorporate journaling on the pages to complete the story.  I just don't want photo books, I want to pass on the stories.  I'm also trying to get all the pics off my phone (the modern shoe box) in print and in books.  I want my daughter to have all the stories. Goals!!!

If you want to learn how to start telling your story, email me! I'd love to help get you started.

Some other treasures found...if only you could hear my dear SIL tell the story about the pool!
